Please be aware of major issues with the March Monthly Rollup for Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 7. (KB4088875) and March 13, 2018—KB4088878 (Security-only update)

After installing this update, your computer might lose it’s virtual network adapter or network settings.

I’ve experienced this on multiple virtual machines running Windows 2008 R2 on VMware vSphere 6.5 that they had an APIPA address on a new network adapter after rebooting during the installation of KB408875.

Apparently, the same issue is present in KB4088878 (Security only update), which I found out the hard way…

I would advice you to not install these updates, decline them on your WSUS server and wait for the April Monthly Rollup.

A lot of customers have reported the same issues on this Microsoft Thread.

Why Microsoft has not pulled back these updates I can’t understand, as the list of known issues with this update is quite big if you read the KB articles and al the posts on the forum.
